I really am. I got another. :-[Lol what the hell is this?? >> Anyway, that's not my question I wanna know what these stand for in a book: **** You know like when you get a paragraph break. Eg, She walked down here along stupid lane bla bla bla bla blahhhhhhhhhhhhh blah blah blah blah let's just say that this is a paragraph **** The next day tra la la What are the stars (or underscores or dots) for? Are they the same as just putting in a large space? Please help!

Yeah that's pretty much what they're for. I've seen other ways of doing it, too, but that's probably the most common. ^^

Tolkien does it. I guess it's just a stylized paragraph break.

They're kinda like semi-chapters I think... A different idea but not necessary a new chapter. Hmm.
