Meanwhile, Lanz had fallen into a peaceful slumber by the fire, the bear meat roasting quite nicely. A nice smell wafted in the air.

"How did you expect me to knock out a bear? Plus, Kat likes blowing things up more." Ai replied. She looked down at herself. "Kat's going to kill me for ruining her clothes, again." She sighed and whiped the back of her hand across her face, only succeeding in smearing the bear's blood across her cheek.
With that she let Kat retake control. "Oh, you didn't." She muttered, "No way, these were my favorite downtime jeans. I can't get these stains out without access to bleach." Reaching up she felt how much blood had gotten into her hair, "Even more gross." She sighed. "Especially with no showers. What am I supposed to do with blood in my hair and no censored showers?"

"Why are clothes so important?" Jerez asked. "As long as they cover you from the elements."
He watched ehr feel her hair, then continued talking. "And there's water right here."
'How did she survive?'

"Clothes are important 'cause I don't get to go to my home planet often anymore." Kat snapped, "And clothes are pretty much all I can bring to Pegasus with me from home. These were my favorite jeans, now I have to figure out how to get downtime on earth to get another pair." She pulled off her jacket and stuffed it in her bag, "Another uniform ruined."
Eying the water nervously she raised a hand to her hair once again. "Ew, that's almost worse than the blood. Without a blow dryer it'll be a freaking mess. I might as well chop it all off for the good that'll do. If Ai didn't share my body I'd get Cap to kick her ass in a training session for the goddamn hair and clothes, but that would kind of just be hurting me."
(ooc: What she doesn't know is that she's getting a haircut soon anyways. Poor girl.)

"I don't know if you want to go around with that mess in your hair, but I guess you can suit yourself..." Jerez said, watching the water and wating for fish to get close.

After a moment more of staring at the water Kat pulled off of her boots and waded knee deep into the water twenty feet down stream of Jerez, soaking her pants. She pulled her hair down from it's ponytail and dunked her head under the water for a few seconds. When she pulled her head out of the water black eyeliner and mascara were running down her face, but the blood was gone from her hair. "Ew, I must look terrible." Wading back out of the water she used her already stained and ruined jacket to wipe off her face. "Have fun fishing, again." She paused, "Sorry for blowing up the fish."
Picking up her backpack and boots Kat walked back to camp, trying to talk with Ai the while she walked. It was like pounding on a steel wall inside her mind with her bare hands, useless, and if you hit to hard it hurt. Apparently she was hiding until any chance of Kat being angry passed.
"Nice to see you've been doing something." Kat muttered to the sleeping Lanz. With a sigh she dropped her boots and pack and sat down across the fire from Lanz, staring at the flames and trying to imagine she was back in Pegasus, that it was Jason asleep on the other side of the fire and Cap was sitting at the edge of the clearing like always. Kat rubbed her arms as though she was cold, it was lonely on this strange world with even Ai refusing to talk to her, even after only a day there.

((ooc: the person Lanz was inspired from is named Jason.)) Weakly, the man came to, blinking away sleepiness and wiping a line of drool that had started to form. He wanted to laugh, but found he was a little too tired. "Yeah. Cooking really takes the life outta you."

"I wouldn't know, I can't cook to save my life." Kat said. She pulled her legs to her chest, looped her arms around them, and rested her forehead against her knees. "Jerez'll be back soon-ish I guess, I accidentally blew up the fish he caught along with the bear."
(ooc: Lol, Jason in my story is Kat's bestfriend. He's a lt., second or first I can never remember.)

"Better fish and bear than him, right? I can't fish to save my life. I tried it once. Don't have the patience to sit there and wait all damn day..." Lanz said yawning and putting all of his energy towards stretching his limbs. "I think the bear will be done in a little bit. Did we get fruit? I think we did..."

"Yeah, Jerez got fruit. And I don't think I'd have the patience to fish either, not that I've ever bothered trying." Kat glanced up at the bear meat, it almost smelled good enough to convince her to eat.

"Well, better get on that fruit then," the man said, pulling a small dagger from his boot. He always kept it there for security, and on many occasions, like this one, it had come in handy. Taking fruit onto one of the large boulders, he began chopping.
"This reminds me of how I need to take better care of my nourishment. I'm really bad at keeping myeslf healthy."

"So am I." Kat said, "I survive on coffee until the doc gets someone to bring me food and force me to eat. Or the doc himself comes by and threatens to put me in the infirmary where he can make me eat if I don't do it on my own." She stood and pulled a pocket knife from her pack. "Need any help?" She flipped open the blade.

"Yeah, I could use the help. Thanks." The man slid half of the fruits over to a section of the boulder where Kat could cut in peace. At first, things seemed rocky with the camp, and he wasn't sure it'd work out. But now, he almost sort of enjoyed it. The fatigue certainly was getting him down, but he quite liked the company of new people. Kat was someone different, someone who he couldn't ever have met back on his world. Lady had truly provided him with a rare chance. She had provided that for everyone.
It made him think of Aeslyn. Her and Kat had similar personalities, though Kat seemed grittier... someone harder to understand. Lanz and Aeslyn had had so many similar experiences, he felt like a damned sibling to her. He liked trying to understand Kat, though. His intellect usually drove people away or let him crack open their shell within mere moments of meeting him, but not her. And, it had been awhile since he had had someone he could begin making a friendship with. But he didn't know if Kat herself would call it that, so he was fine with calling it an "acquaintenceship".
He was reminded of Felix. Felix was a friend he never thought he'd really miss. Suddenly, Lanz realized what he was doing - reminiscing - and quickly wiped what pained expression he might've had off of his face and grouped the sliced fruit together.

Moving over to the boulder Kat flipped open her pocket knife and started slicing the fruit easily. Juice spilled onto her hands but and the sweet smell made her stomach roll but she just made a face and kept slicing the fruit. For a moment she thought Lanz looked sad or uncomfortable, she wasn't sure which, but it was gone just as fast. "Something wrong?"
Waiting for him to answer she went back to pounding on the barriers in her own mind, trying to annoy Ai into speaking. Every few seconds she would stop to look into the forest, uncomfortable being on an alien world for so long and not having met either natives or enemies. She couldn't help but expect to hear gunfire or stunner blasts any second.

"Nothing really. Just thinking about things that happened in the past. It's a bad habit. I just always want to think of things that... already happened. I guess I'm what you could call an emotional masochist," Lanz said to her. "I had a friend. I abused his friendship, I suppose you could say, because I was always real cruel to him."
