"Hi honey, how was school?" her mother asked Sarah while unpacking boxes. They had just moved for her father's job. Luckily, it was the summer before grade nine, so even if they hadn't moved, she would have been going to a new school anyways.
Sarah closed the back door behind her. "It was school, mom. It has never been my favourite pastime.." She replied.
"Well, did you make any friends?"
"Yeah.. I met a couple people.."
"That's great! Do you mind helping me?"
"Sure.." She went over and started helping her mom, putting dishes in cupboards.
And suddenly, her mother exclaimed, "Sweetie, you should bring them over some time so I can meet them!" Sarah was so shocked, the plates jumped out of her hands and shattered on the floor. "Oh dear... " her mother said, going to find a broom.
Ring! Ring! Ri- Sarah went and picked up the phone. "Hello?" She asked.
"Hey, is Sarah there?" a familiar male voice asked.
"Yes.."
"It's Troy."
"Okay.. Why are you calling? And how did you get my number?"
"Oh, I got your digits from the school site.."
"Okay.."
"So.... You doin' anything tonight?"
"No... But my parents are going out to get the rest of our stuff. They wouldn't rent a U-haul, but they'll pay to store it in our old town until they can go bring it themselves. It's four hours away from here!! They'll be gone all night!!"
"Hmm..." his voice trailed off. Sarah wandered to her new room, which only had a double sized bed in it at the moment. Her school bag was slung over her shoulder. The walls were disturbingly empty.
She took out her homework, looking at it. What kind of school gave you algebra class in the first semester?
"Hey Sarah, you still there?"
"Yeah.. Hey, you good at algebra?"
"My average last year was 89%.."
"Could you come over and help me tonight?"
"Sure. My parents are out of town.. And don't worry, I know where you live, I saw you get off of the bus. You're just down the street from me..."
"Okay.. Come over around six.."
"Alright.. Bye.." He hung up.
"Bye.." Sarah replied into the dead phone, hanging up.
********************************
Ding-dong!
"Comin'!" Sarah yelled, weaving through boxes to the front door. "Troy, could you go around to the back door? It's a little.... Crowded over here.." she informed him as she stuck her head out the door. She shut the door and hopped to the back door, opening it. He wandered in. "Let's go up to my room. It's the only one where two people can actually fit," she said, running up the stairs with Troy at her tail.
********************************
"Thanks Troy! I think I actually get it now!!" she exclaimed, joyously, putting the work in her bag.
"Aw... It was nothing..." he said. "It only took an hour.." His eyes glanced to her bed, which Sarah was laying on. He got up from the ground, which was where he was sitting.
As she sat back down on the bed, he sat beside her, an odd look on his face. " You okay?" she asked. He nodded. "Hey, Sarah.. Can you help me with my.. Biology homework?" he asked, advancing to wards her. "What do you mean?" she asked. "You said you were done all of your homework.." A malicious grin appeared on his face, and a bad feeling stirred in her gut. His hands reached for her body.
Why me.. Why me..? Oh dear God, if you're real, why did you let this happen to me? How could such an apparently nice guy be so horrible..?
