Kari returned to the cave, reeling back in shock. Shora's pup was sitting in the pool of her mother's blood, trying to nurse. "Hey little one." Kari whispered, getting closer. She gently picked the pup up by the scruff of the neck, a gesture she had performed many times with her son. She padded outside to find the Alphas, who had recently had pups of their own. One more wouldn't be to big of a burden. Placing the pup in the grass outside their den, and went in to talk to the Alpha Female, Kora; but before she did, Kari looked back at the little pup, and gasped.
Ciara's eyes... were open. But that was impossible! Pups were never born with their eyes open, unless there was something seriously wrong with them. It was the equivalent of being born backward; it simply wasn't done.
"What? Born with her eyes open? That's not possible!"
"But its true! She needs a mother, Kora." Kari pleaded with the Alpha Female, lying on the hard cave floor, rolling over submissively to expose her neck and belly.
"Why can't you take her?."
"One pup is more than enough for me." Kari ran outside to bring Ciara to the Alpha Female, pointing out that the pup's eyes were indeed, open.
"The likeness is uncanny..." Kora whispered, looking down at the little ball of fluff in Kari's jaws. "She looks just like Sorrel!"
"No, Sorrel is the opposite of this one." She muttered, turning away. "Please, Kora. Just take her. A mother is what this one needs, and I think you are the one for the job." As if on cue, the pup started crying for food, the poor thing staring up at them hungrily.
"Alright, little one. Let's get some milk in you."

"Mother," A young male scoffed. "If you're just guessing, how did you know Ciara's mom's name?" He had a sarcastic air about him as he flicked his tail impatiently.
"Shut up, Sorrel!" Ciara barked at him, whacking him in the head with a large black paw. "You're going to ruin the story!"
"Never!" He pounced onto her back, knocking her to the ground. "While your big, I'm bigger." He bragged.
"Get off! Kari, do something!" She whined, looking to the older wolf for help. Her friend whined with obvious glee; he never had a chance to tackle her.
"C'mon Sorrel. Bath time." Ciara watched as Kari and Sorrel played together, Sorrel attempting to escape his mothers tongue as she ruthlessly washed him.
She padded off into the woods, on her way to a nearby creek she often sat by when she needed to think. It was her place, one of quiet memories, and hopeful dreams.
"It isn't quite fair, is it, Ciara?" A voice asked, seemingly coming out of nowhere.
"Who's there?" She barked, a panicky tone entering her voice.
"Calm yourself child. I am your friend." Morrison stepped out of the trees, tail flicking with impatience. He could take the girl now. But he wouldn't. His plan had been carefully thought out, and he wouldn't mess it up now. "I want to help you."
"With what?" She asked, the panic leaving her voice. He's a stranger here... but that doesn't make him foe... She thought. Of course, she forgot the warning Kari had continuously drilled into her brain. Don't trust loners...
"I saw how you watched your acquaintance, I saw how sad you were. And I would like you to talk to me. You see, I was a friend of your mother... I miss her too..."
"You knew my mom?!" Ciara asked, practically jumping for joy. "What was she like? Was she pretty? Tall? Did she look like me, or am I just... out there? Could she control any elements?"
"Patience little one, soon all of your questions will be answered."
Nearby, in the brush, Sorrel watched, an expression of horror on his face as Ciara talked to this... stranger. How did she know who this guy was? Maybe he started the fire that had killed her mother! He couldn't understand why he didn't trust this one, but...
He just didn't.
"I must go, darling. There are those here who would not appreciate my presence." He slinked into the shadows, Ciara calling after him,
"I won't tell!"
"Ciara?" Came the sound of Kari's voice. Crap. They were looking for her. She ran out of the forest, colliding head-on with Sorrel and his mother.
"What?"
