For the second time that day, I opened my eyes and found myself in that same gloomy forest. As I sat up, I realized I had been clothed in corduroy pants and a white t-shirt. I looked over at blaze of light I could see from the corner of my eye. What I saw was someone who seemed to radiate perfection. She was, in every way, the exact opposite of me. Her curly, blonde hair only just grazed her shoulders. Her eyes were a rare shade of green, and filled with light compared to my dull, dark, black eyes. She donned long, loose fitting green pants and a flattering green tank top. I sighed as I stood, and strode over to the fire. She glanced up at me over her shoulder, eyes twi-nk-ling.
"Ah, so you have decided to grace us with your presence," she smiled, and had already moved over by the time she realized there wasn't room on the log for me. As she turned, I noticed the falcon perched on her shoulder. It regarded me with beady gold eyes, which followed my every movement. That explained the eerie feeling I had had of being watched. I looked around and wondered where the boy, who was obviously the one who had saved me, could be.
"James went to find you some food." She left her statement hanging in the air like a question, like there was a possibility I wouldn't want any food.
I smiled gratefully, "Thanks." Then I realized then that I hadn't eaten since morning, yesterday. As this thought crossed my mind two things simultaneously occured. One, my stomach growled in response to my hunger thought; and two, James walked into the clearing carrying food. It astounded me that I hadn't been able to fully appreciate his striking beauty from the lake. His golden brown hair just barely dusted over his perfect emerald green eyes, eyes he shared with the girl. He wore green pants that were covered with leaves. His shirt was white and sleeveless. It had ‘Briela’ written across it in the same green as his pants.
I vaguely heard the girl beside me laugh, processing this only when she reached over to shut my dangling jaw. Diving back into the stream of reality, I glanced down at the food he had brought–and was currently offering to– me . It looked like an assortment of nuts and berries from this forest. As I looked up, I asked the question that was most prominent in my mind: "So what are you guys doing in this forest?"
