a/n - this is another option for how Ari and Will are taken from their home of Krell. It isn't complete. I just thought of it on the bus ride home from school. I have yet to write what comes before this.
What's happening is basically this:
A trading caravan has set up outside the town walls. Bunches of people are there, trading, looking, etc. Ari, Will, and Gina are there too. Everything is going just spiffy, when a band of raiders attacks. What I have written so far, is what happenes when they attack.
Please keep in mind that all names of people, towns, etc (except for Ari, Will, and Gina) are subject to change. I have issues when it comes to good names
There was chaos and panic as people tried to escape. Screams and shouts filled the air. Ari looked around for Will, but she didn’t see him. The stench of death was all around. Ari saw a young man on the ground, dead. Blood was splattered on him and the ground. Ari’s chest tightened. She felt a tug on her shirt sleeve. A little girl asked for her mother. She wore a pale green dress with white trim. A woman snatched the child up and ran. Ari panicked. She was no longer in the middle of a raid. She was five years old again, watcheng her family and friends getting slaughtered. She pulled herself back to realigy and tried to run toward town, but she tripped over a dead body. When she saw who it was, a cry tore from her throat. Gina lay face up, a deep gash at her throat. The world seemed to spin befor her eyes. Suddenly, someone took her by the arms and pulled her to her feet. It was Will. He was covered with dirt and blood. He began to run, pulling Ari along with him
“Come on” he said in a choked voice. “We’ve got to get out of here. They ran, but it seemed every which way they went, a raider on a horse blocked their path. The raiders were all around, corralling people into a glump. They were trapped by a ring of men and horses. One of the raiders, a huge, formidable man, came forward and shouted an order for everyone to be silent.
"As of today, you are no longer free. Some of you will be sold at the slave markets in the north, some of you will serve us. From here on, you will do exactly as you are told. If you resist, you will be killed. If you try to escape, you will be killed. Get used to it.” His words hung in the air. Ari was in a daze. She, just as many other people, was far to shocked to cry, be afraid, or have any emotion at all. “Split them up,” the man shouted to his men. Immediately, the raiders began to divide the people into groups. Young from old, girl from boy.
Will noticed that a few girls were sparated from the rest. He heard one of the raiders say that they would stay with the camp. He felt a twinge of fear – not for himself, but for Kari. There was only one reason that the raiders would want to keep the pretty girls for themselves and Ari was very pretty. He looked at her. She too had seen what was going on. Her face was white. The raiders were coming closer to them. Will knew he had to protect Kari somehow. Then he had an idea. He turned to Ari, punched her in her eye and broke her nose. She yelled in pain and gave him a wondering look. Tears filled her eyes. “You’ll thank me later” he told her.
Ari was in pain. Her nose was broken and bleeding and she could feel her eye already starting to puff up. What was wrong will him? She sondered. She and emotional wreck. The raiders had killed Gina, taked her captive, and now Will had seemingly lost his mind. What did he mean when he said that she would thank him later? It was the second worst day of her life. Two men on horses rode over to her and Will. One of them grabbed Will by the collar of his shirt and began to drag him away. The other grabbed her arm. He looked her up and down. “Wait” he said. “What about this one. Should we keep her? She’s not bad looking at all.” Ari’s heard skipped a beat. No her mind screamed.
“Nah. Look at her. She’s all beat up. Probably more trouble than she’s worth. Ari realized why Will had hurt her. She must look as though she had gotten into a fight. They only wanted to keep girls who were meek and wouldn’t cause trouble, not ones who might fight back. She silently thanked will as she was thrust into a goup of womed about her age.
The raiders finished dividing up the people. They came by and tied the hands of all the captives. The people were forced in to four lines. Raiders surrounded them to make sure no one tried to run. They headed in what Ari thought must be north. She was never good with directions. They trudged for the rest of the day. Any who could not keep up were killed. Nearing sunset, the arrived at a camp at the edge of a forest. The raiders drove wooden stakes into the ground and tied the captive’s hands loosely to them. As they went about this, Ari noticed that no one was watching her. Throughout the long walk, she had been discretely loosening her bonds. Now, she took a chance and slipped them off and ran. She heard shouts behind her and a horse’s hooves pounding the earth as a raider gave chase. Ari ran faster. If she could get into the forest, she would have a better chance of escape. The horse came closer. Ari was almost to the tree line. About 15 yards more and she would make it. Then she stepped in a gopher hole and fell. She hit the ground hard. Her nose rubbed on the ground, bringing a fresh wave of blinding pain. She couldn’t move. She heard the horse come to a stop and its rider dismount. Heavy footsteps came toward her. A gloved hand grabbed her arm and jerked her to her feet.
“And just what do you think you’re doing?” he growled.
Ari was angry now. “What does it look like” she snapped. The man whipped out his knife and held it to her throat.
“Watch it” he said. “I’d kill you now, but first you get to pay a visit to Lord Rohan. He’ll decide your fate.” The man chuckled as he led Kari through the camp. The captives looked at her, fear written all over their faces. Ari recognized a few. She was angry at herself for falling. If she hadn’t, she might have gotten away. She could have gotten help and freed these people. She saw Will among them. “What did you do?” he mouthed to her. She looked away. Now, the anger was replaced by fear as they approached the same man who had addressed the people when they were first captured. He could only be the Lord Rohan that the man who caught her had spoken of. He raised an eyebrow when he saw Ari. Her feet were knocked out from under her and she fell on her hands and knees at his feet. He reached out and tilted her chin up to see her face. He had an amused look on his face.
“What have we here?” he asked
